I was told that this wonderful old tin mill came from the Dummer estate in Rowley

-- I have now learned that it is shaped like a Durian fruit

I might just put them to decorative use

and there are also a fair number of unfilled holes

As a stand alone piece I think it's pretty terrific

Obviously they were carved by the same person but it appears of two different woods, and decorated with what seems to have been a water based paint, a fair bit of it lost or faded but lots of good color remaining, Great faces, great attituses, and I how the area underneath her chair was outlined but never carved out. Total charmers. Both measure about 4 1 4" t x 7 8" w x 2 1
